You Need To Strengthen Your Home Security

A burglary occurs four times each minute, which is a very scary thought. If you are fortunate and you have never gone through a burglary, then there is still a good chance that you know someone who has. With the risk of becoming a victim so high, you should do everything that you can to make sure that your home is safe and secure. It is easier than you might think to get your home secure.

When you start increasing your home’s security, you should first make sure you have good locks on all the doors and windows. You need to check all of the locks, even the ones on the upstairs windows that you think a burglar would never try. After you are sure the locks work properly, make sure you use them. You might be surprised home many people don’t lock their windows or their backdoors. Some people even leave the front door unlocked when they go on short errands to the grocery store or post office. This is as good as an invitation to the burglar.

Quite a few people think they are clever by leaving spare keys in places such as false rocks or even beneath a welcome mat. This is a terrible idea. If you can think of a place to hide a key, then the burglars will have already thought of the same idea. Don’t leave any spare keys outside. It is just asking for trouble.

Another thing about keys that most people don’t consider is the location of where they place the keys inside the house. If you have a key rack next to the front door, and there is a nearby window, the burglar can simply break the window, reach inside, and grab the keys to your car, house, and everything else you have. A nice reinforced door won’t do you any good if you offer up your keys so easily.

If you have a sliding glass door, you need to know that the locks on them aren’t very good for the most part. You will want to reinforce the door by taking the end or a mop or broom handle and then using it in the runners. This will prevent the door from opening. You could even invest in a high quality foot lock to help secure the door.

Your lighting is important as well. Make sure you have plenty of good lighting and that your landscaping doesn’t provide places for thieve to hide. A good investment would be lights that are motion sensitive. They don’t cost very much and they can do wonders for your home security.

Of course, if you want to make your house as safe as possible, you should invest in a home security system. You can get the systems installed at great prices, and the monthly monitoring fee is affordable. You will feel much more at ease when you have a good security system keeping things safe when you are home and
