Weak Links In Your Home Security

Let’s face it; most of us aren’t highly paid celebrities that can afford bodyguards and roving security around the perimeter of our homes to keep us safe from intrusion. Still, the world is a dangerous place, and you need to find ways to secure your home even if you don’t have Hollywood money. Don’t worry, you will be able to find plenty of ways to beef up your security and repair all those weak links in your home’s armor. Best of all, it won’t cost you very much money to get the place into shape.

The first thing that you have to do is find all of those weaknesses that could make your home a target of someone who wants to rob you or do you harm. You should consider all of the different areas of the house that someone might be able to use to their advantage, whether it is to hide or break inside. It doesn’t matter where you live, or what type of home you have, many of the things that you can do to protect it are the same.

When you are looking at your home to determine where it needs more or better security, you should look at the landscaping. If you have tall shrubs, bushes or trees in the yard, you will want to ensure that they are trimmed and do not offer a place for someone to hide. It is easy to understand why you want beautiful landscaping to help with the aesthetics of the home, but you should not forego safety for a pretty yard.

Next, make sure all the locks in the house are working properly. This includes the locks on all of the windows. If you recently moved into a home, you should have the locks changed since there is no telling who might have a key for those old locks. You might even want to consider getting some state of the art keyless entry locks. These are safe and secure, and you will never have to fumble with a key in the dark again.

If you have a sliding glass door that leads to a patio or balcony, you need to take particular care. The locks on these are easy to break, so you should always take a length of wood to put in the runners to make sure that if someone were to try to force the lock, the door would still not open.

Another thing that you should do is get to know your neighbors. If you and the neighbors are familiar with one another, you will know when someone is in the neighborhood that doesn’t belong.

The very best thing that you can do to increase your home security is to get a home security system installed by professionals. This will give you the safety and peace of mind that you need while you are home and away. The more you do to make your home secure, the more comfortable you will be.
